M for Bombay #Migrant in the city
In this video, we hear from Nurul Zama Khan, an auto driver from Rura village in Kanauj, Uttar Pradesh, as he speaks about his experiences in Mumbai. This footage is a part of the larger project “M for Bombay” directed by Aditi Saraswat, Akash Basumatari, Akshat Jain, Nayantara Nayar, and Saurabh Kumar.
As we see a group of seasonal migrant workers leaving Mumbai for their hometowns, their friends and relatives who are staying behind entrust them with money to send back home. This short film is a part of the larger project “M for Bombay” that aims to shed light on the challenges and experiences of migrant workers in Mumbai through the powerful medium of cinema.
While the project is not currently in post-production, Opia Films encourages the community to continue to contribute resources and support the larger goal of raising awareness about the migrant experience in Mumbai.
