Leave No Dalit Women Behind

Updated: Jun 10, 2021

An online campaign focused on scavenging community women and girls

About the campaign : An online campaign focused on the issues of Dalit women, who represent the most oppressed strata in caste-based Indian society. Looking at all issues through an intersectional lens, within the social categorization of the Dalits, Dalit women are highly vulnerable and deprived of rights and agency especially during the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. Even within the Dalit community, there is a graded inequality with the lowest caste among them working as manual scavengers, facing the brunt of the social hierarchy and inequality based on the caste system. Among them, women face the double oppression of caste and gender. An extension of the UN call for “Leave No Woman Behind”, we call this campaign Leave No Dalit Woman Behind.
